There certainly have been lessons learned, but I'm afraid it's been too little, too late. I've always been of the opinion that it was never too late to learn anything at all, but I'm soon to be proven wrong in that regard, I think.

Unless you're being thrown into a lifelong prison or risking the loss of close friendships, I would think lessons could still be learned. So, which one is it?
Neither, though I suppose if I were to liken it to one of those options, it would be nearest to the first. Not prison, but regardless of what lessons I may have learned, I don't believe there's any avoiding what's ahead.
