Fascinating! I've opened portals to many a plane, and have visited my share, but to be linked to them so intrinsically must be an exhilarating experience!
My apologies for assuming! He must be a particularly talented bard. My most recent experiences with bards have been limited to tales and tunes alike, but I know there are many with a broader range of skills to be found.
[ after her time in the fire plane, exhilarating is not the word she would've used. ]
My people take our duty seriously. But if you'd like to see my elemental shapes sometime, I'd be happy to show you.
As for Scanlan, he does tales and tunes, his inspiration is really questionable at times but also pretty clutch. He's just actually really good with arcane spells. Not like Allura good, but for a bard? Good enough to counterspell some damned good things. Or, well, bad things coming at us. You know what I mean.
As they should! No duties should ever be taken lightly, least of all one with such weight. Though remarkable things can be done at those places where the veil between planes is thinnest, in the wrong hands, great devastation could also be wrought. Your people have been granted a noble charge.
I'm afraid I do know what you mean. There always seems to be something unpleasant sailing towards any given adventuring party, hm?
Yeah, a fourth of my people were almost wiped out because of one of those wrong hands.
[ if this were in person, her voice would be both dry and tight with anger. she is still not over that, even though all the beings involved are now firmly dead. ]
Always. It's been a year since the near end of the world and things still almost fell apart. We're not even adventuring anymore and trouble found us again anyway. An old trouble, sure, but trouble! Once an adventuring party, always an adventuring party, huh?
My deepest condolences, for whatever they may be worth. History is full of such events, and yet many refuse to learn and thus are doomed to repeat them. I am glad that those wrong hands were not successful in the end, though I know that does not mean there has not been lasting harm.
I am beginning to think there is no retiring from adventuring. I had thought to pursue a decidedly quieter life once all had come to an end, but this world is far too exciting for such a thing to be possible. There will always be something, and perhaps it is the responsibility of those of us who have the power to do something to get involved.
Yeah, well, it was a disaster elsewhere for a while, but it's not really a disaster anymore. You're right, though. There were a lot of scars from that, both visible and not. We're still picking up the pieces.
I kind of don't have a choice but to retire back home. But sometimes my friends get into trouble and I get pulled back in. Can't say no when one of them gets his soul sucked out and two others get married for real, right?
[ this does, of course, beg the question of what happened to the soul and why is a wedding considered an adventure, but that's also the "adventurer's life," isn't it? ]
